SIGEP 2022, THE DOLCE WORLD WE WERE ALL WAITING FOR

The 43rd show of artisan dolce foodservice supply chains, organised by Italian Exhibition Group, ended in Rimini. Attendance down by 25% compared to the mammoth pre-pandemic edition of January 2020.

Rimini (Italy), 16th March 2022 – The 43rd edition of Sigep – The Dolce World Expo, Italian Exhibition Group’s event specifically for gelato, pastry, chocolate, artisan bakery and coffee supply chains, came to a close today at Rimini Expo Centre. Twenty-five months since the last physically-attended edition and one year after the fully digital show, the international community of out-of-home dolce products was finally able to meet: 950 brands in 90,000 square metres of exhibition space, with over 3,000 appointments scheduled between international buyers (one thousand) and exhibiting companies; 50 hours of talks from the Vision Plaza and the four vertical “Arenas” (Gelato, Pastry, Bakery and Coffee), 100 hours of national and international competitions, demonstrations and show cooking for professionals, plus hundreds of events at exhibitor stands. For the operators at the show, the return to Sigep led to “results beyond expectations”. Compared to the pre-pandemic edition of January 2020, which was an enormous success, attendance at this 2022 edition was down by 25%. Insiders evaluated the overall visitation as highly profiled and businesslike. And from now until Friday, time for the “Digital agenda”, with foreign buyers already booked.

DOLCE FOODSERVICE EVOLUTION, BETWEEN NEW FORMATS AND DIGITAL
Sigep returned in physical form after two years marked by restrictions to combat the pandemic, which the industry tackled with an evolution, digitalising distribution channels, furthering training and investing in research and development to expand the range of products and ingredients, increasingly inclusive with respect to food choices and intolerances, or aimed at energy saving for professional foodservice machinery. The environmental, economic and social sustainability of artisan supply chains, from gelato to pastry, cocoa and coffee, is a concrete response to new consumer behaviour. “Loyalty” has become the key relationship between customer and the upstream supply chain: according to a survey by The NPD Group, 93% of baked dolce product consumers are willing to return to the same sales point compared to 85% of the market average. 10% of out-of-home dolce consumers want gratification compared to 8% of the market. An attitude that explains the recovering numbers in the gelato, pastry, chocolate, artisan bakery and coffee sectors, which were estimated to be worth €9.5 billion in Italy in 2021.

THE SIGEP CHINA DEBUT
In this context, Italian Exhibition Group has been working to internationalise Sigep. After the memorandum of understanding signed just a few weeks ago between Koelnmesse and IEG, on Tuesday 15th, Sigep China was presented to the market and the press at the show. Corrado Peraboni, CEO of IEG SpA, and Gerald Böse, President and CEO of Koelnmesse GmbH, announced the first edition, scheduled to take place from 19th to 21st April 2023 in the city of Shenzhen, at the World Exhibition & Convention Center. Sigep China will be positioned with Anufood China – organized by Anuga, Koelnmesse’s leading food event in southern China.

AMID TRAINING AND COMPETITION
Sigep 2022 reconfirmed its role as a place for important competitions in view of coming international challenges. First and foremost, the national selections of gelato and pastry chefs who will be on the Italian team competing in the Gelato European Cup at Sigep 2023, prior to the Gelato World Cup, also at Sigep, in 2024. And then the winners of the Italian Barista Championship, who will compete in Melbourne for the World Coffee Championship from 27th to 30th September 2022.

The 44th edition of Sigep – The Dolce World Expo together with ABTech Expo will be held at Rimini Expo Centre from 21st to 25th January 2023, back to the usual positioning.

IEG: SIGEP JANUARY POSTPONED TO MARCH 2022

According to trade associations, current pandemic indicators make it impossible for significant attendance from abroad, including Europe, in January

Rimini, 30th December 2021 – Sigep – The Dolce World Expo, IEG – Italian Exhibition Group event, scheduled for January, has been postponed to 12th – 16th March 2022.

In view of current pandemic indicators, the trade associations concerned consider it impossible to attract significant attendance from both Italy and abroad, including Europe.

To be precise, requests received from all Sigep’s associative organizations have led IEG to acknowledge the fact that the negative evolution of the pandemic will not allow the show to be held in late January as planned. Hence, IEG’s decision to postpone the event to the best possible dates in March 2022.

FROM SIGEP EXP CONFIDENCE IN THE DESSERT AND COFFEE OUT-OF-HOME MARKET

Awaiting the live edition in January 2022 at Rimini expo centre, Italian Exhibition Group kept the relationship with foodservice alive via its digital platform. The figures are clear: 250 exhibitors taking part, 25% of the trade members from 136 foreign countries. 268 buyers from 60 countries met the companies, resulting in 2,500 meetings and 1,250 hours of web connection

Rimini (Italy), 18th March 2021 – Sigep Exp, the all-digital edition of the Italian Exhibition Group expo dedicated to artisan gelato, pastry and bakery and the coffee world, ended yesterday. An edition organized and staged completely on a digital platform, while awaiting the great appointment in January 2022, once more live at Rimini expo centre (Italy). The objectives achieved were those that the out-of-home community requested to ensure continuity for the market of products and technology of the four supply chains and anticipate the prospects of evolution of the markets, with a great international profile.

The figures are clear: thanks to 250 exhibitors taking part on the digital platform, the organization of IEG and the cooperation with ITA Italian Trade Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, this year Sigep hosted 300 events (42 under the Sigep banner), which generated 25,000 streaming views. 25% of the trade members were from 136 foreign countries (in particular Germany, Spain, France, Brazil and the United States). On the IEG My Agenda platform, 268 buyers from 60 countries met the companies, with 2,500 meetings in 3 days and 1,250 hours of web connection covering every time zone, thanks to the assistance of a task force deployed by IEG, with its network of regional advisors, and ITA Italian Trade Agency, which involved 30 of its offices worldwide. Networking was held in 10 different languages. A total of 5,000 contacts and approximately 10,000 messages exchanged. Moreover, almost 24 million media contacts reached in the three days of the event, 138 journalists accredited and 750,000 unique users making contact via the social channels with the Sigep brand during the days on which the platform was open.

A combination of competence and relations ability that generated a lever for the market able to reinforce the commercial networking, the presentation of new products and the sense of belonging of a sector that has never stopped creating and experimenting a strategy for coming through the pandemic crisis.

Vision Plaza and Sigep Lab inspired the professionals connected from all over the world with market analyses and case histories on one hand, and with in-depth coverage of technologies and product preparation techniques on the other. Artisan gelato confirms its attitude to meet consumers´ requirement for healthy food with excellent ingredients, always continually experimenting and to the fore on the international front with the perspective of arriving at true collections of seasonal flavours. Pastry indicates the need for continual training and cultural refinement, to find its place in the high-end foodservice system, as well as in neighbourhood companies. Bakery transforms the ancestral tradition of yeast into contemporaneity, even in desserts for special occasions, in a combination with cakes and the hundreds of regional variations of bread. In specialty niches, Coffee has found the new channel for making contact with clients. Packaging, communication, social media, sales channels and couriers for delivery round off the Horeca 4.0 ecosystem outlined at Sigep Exp. A result achieved by the work carried out with CAST Alimenti, Association of Italian Gelato Makers, Academy of Italian Master Pastry Chefs, Conpait, the Organizing Committee of the Gelato World Cup, Specialty Coffee Association Italy and Richemont Club Italy, as well as the long-lasting collaboration with the key periodicals.

The next appointment with Sigep will be live, at Italian Exhibition Group’s Rimini expo centre, from 22nd to 26th January 2022.
